The Sri Lankan rupee has depreciated by 4.1% against the US dollar during the year so far (2025), according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The Central Bank revealed this information in its latest foreign exchange data report, released on 14 November 2025, measuring the year-to-date depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar.
According to the report, the rupee has weakened significantly from the beginning of the year up to now, marking continued pressure on the local currency.
Economists note that the depreciation of the rupee has direct implications for Sri Lanka’s economy, contributing to higher import costs and increases in domestic prices. As a result, the currency’s downward trend has drawn heightened attention from economic analysts.
