MP Dayasiri Jayasekara alleges that Minister Bimal Rathnayake approved the release of 323 containers without a customs inspection, calling it the biggest theft under the current government, and says he will take the matter to court.
He further claimed that there is no documentation or record of what happened to the containers after their release.
According to him, when information was requested, only the countries from which the goods were imported were disclosed, and no official customs records were provided.
He added that Customs refused to release the full details, citing privacy concerns.
MP Jayasekara stated that he intends to pursue legal action and take the matter before the courts to obtain the relevant information.
He made these remarks during a press conference held in Colombo.
