COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – June 13, 2025 – The Russian House in Colombo was abuzz with artistic energy on Friday, June 13th, as it hosted an exclusive exhibition of rare artworks and a special workshop by renowned Russian artist Mr. Evgeny Mikhaylovsky. The event, held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, captivated students from The Russian School of Art and a distinguished audience.
The esteemed gathering included Madam Maria L.Popova, Director of the Russian House, Mr. Buddhapriya Ramanayake, CEO, and dedicated art teachers Mr. Arjuna Jayasinghe, Ms. Mahesha Fernando, and Mrs. Chandi Aluvihare (Cultural Officer). Also present were Mrs. Olga Pankova, media personalities, parents, and the entire staff of The Russian House, all eager to witness this unique cultural exchange.

Evgeny Mikhaylovsky, widely known by his artistic moniker Netra, is a multifaceted talent, excelling as an artist, designer, and photographer. He holds the esteemed position of Vice President of “Tetra-Art” and is a respected member of the Eurasian Art Union. Netra’s impressive body of work has been showcased globally since 1986, and his current visit marks a significant moment for the Sri Lankan art scene.
Netra is currently in Colombo to publicize his captivating exhibition titled “Russia: From Reality to Abstraction,” which officially opened on June 13th. This exhibition features 13 exclusive pieces by Netra himself, alongside other notable Russian avant-garde artists, offering a unique glimpse into contemporary Russian art.
Adding to the excitement, Mr. Mikhaylovsky conducted a special workshop exclusively for the enthusiastic students of The Russian School of Art. The young art enthusiasts eagerly participated, gaining invaluable insights and inspiration from the master artist. The event served as a vibrant platform for cultural exchange and artistic growth, further strengthening the ties between Russia and Sri Lanka through the universal language of art.
