A movie ‘Tourist Family’, based on a family fleeing Sri Lanka, has become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025, the Indian media reported.
The Tamil family drama Tourist Family, starring Sasikumar and Simran, is now all set for its OTT release. After a good run in theatres, the film will now be available to stream online.
Tourist Family will stream from June 2, 2025, on JioHotstar in India. Viewers outside India can watch it on SimplySouth from the same day.
Directed by Abishan Jeevinth in his debut, the film features Sasikumar and Simran in lead roles. It also stars Yogi Babu, M. S. Bhaskar, Mithun Jai Sankar, and others. The film’s music is by Sean Roldan, and it is produced by Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment.
The story follows a Tamil family from Sri Lanka who move to India after the COVID-19 pandemic due to financial troubles. Facing language barriers, cultural differences, and money problems, the family struggles to adjust. However, they support each other and slowly rebuild their lives, making the story both emotional and inspiring.
The film received mixed reviews. The Times of India rated it 2.5/5, saying that while it had emotional moments, some parts felt forced and predictable. Still, it was praised for its honest storytelling.
Despite a slow start, Tourist Family turned into a hit. It earned ₹82.46 crore worldwide, making it the fifth highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025. (Agencies)
